For Staff, Employees, Volunteers:

If you are reading this page, then it is probable that you have been asked to take the Managing By Appreciation Inventory by your employer, manager or supervisor. Unfortunately, some people become quite anxious about taking the MBA – largely as a result of misunderstanding what it assesses.

What the MBA Inventory measures

The Managing By Appreciation Inventory is a self-report tool that strives to help managers and supervisors understand how best to encourage and show appreciation to their staff. It is a series of 30 pairs of statements that the individual chooses which fits best for them (see the sample items). There are no right or wrong answers (or patterns of answers). The sole purpose of the MBA Inventory is to discover which actions communicate appreciation to you most effectively in the work setting.

What the MBA Inventory isn’t

The MBA Inventory is not a psychological test or an assessment of one’s global personality. It is not looking for hidden meanings or for negative aspects of your personality or behavior.

Taking the MBA Inventory

Taking the MBA Inventory online takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete. There are 30 pairs of statements. You are asked to identify which of two statements fit you best. Sometimes it will be difficult to choose one over the other, but you are asked to pick the one that applies most often to you. The statements may seem to become repetitive, but no one pair of items is repeated.

What You Will Receive

Upon completing the inventory, a report will be generated that identifies your: a) primary language of appreciation; b) your secondary language of appreciation; and c) your lowest language of appreciation. You will then be directed to a page which will allow you to choose specific action items which are most applicable to you.
